With a preface by Warren E. Burger and an introduction by Daniel J. Boorstin, 1987. $2,000.00
Publication 21
ADD TO CARTThe Arion Press, in association with the Library of Congress, published this edition of the United States Constitution on the bicentenary of its framing in 1987. Chief Justice of the United States Burger and Librarian of Congress Boorstin contributed appreciations of the document.
The text was provided by the Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution and follows the form of the engrossed document as adopted for the Constitution and the printed documents as ratified for the Amendments, with minor changes by Arion for uniformity of typographic style. [The U. S. Government Printing Office issued an inexpensive offset reproduction of this edition in paper covers that same year.] An article about the publication appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and excited patriotic fervor. On the Saturday morning the article appeared, Hoyem, as was his wont and need, approached the Press building to go to work and heard the telephones ringing even before he put his key in the lock on the front door. The calls were constant throughout the morning and into the afternoon on the three lines, and he had to send for help in answering the telephone and taking orders. The edition soon sold out.
